A man has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a woman who got into his vehicle believing he was her rideshare driver.
WA Police said the woman, aged in her 20s, was collected by the man from the Perth CBD area just before 5am on February 12.
“It will be further alleged that before taking the victim to her home address, the man sexually assaulted her,” police said in a statement on Tuesday.
Police said the alleged attack happened in the Hamilton Hill area, in Perth’s south.
Sex Assault Squad detectives have charged a 39-year-old man from Beckenham with two counts of sexual penetration without consent, and one count of unlawful and indecent assault.
He is scheduled to face Fremantle Magistrates Court later on Tuesday.
The investigation is ongoing and detectives urge anyone who may have been approached by a man in a red Toyota Corolla hatchback in the Northbridge or Perth CBD area to contact Crime Stoppers.
