A jury in the trial of a man accused of violently attacking his neighbour with a chainsaw north of Brisbane has been discharged.
Gary John Salter had pleaded not guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after a street confrontation escalated back in June last year.
The victim, Gregory Olijnyk, was left with serious injuries after Mr Salter slashed him with a chainsaw outside his Burpengary home.
The Crown contended Mr Salter intended to cause grievous harm to his neighbour, but Mr Salter’s defence team disputed this.
On Tuesday at Brisbane District Court, Acting Judge Katarina Prskalo informed the jury the trial would no longer be proceeding.
Judge Prskalo said “some matters had arisen” in the morning that meant the jury needed to be discharged.
The trial was set down for two days.
